One of the laziest filmmaking approaches that surfaces every few years is to skewer annoying people by depicting their frustrating behavior in full force under the guise of social commentary and satire. In turn, by following the ill-advised examples of Spring Breakers and The Bling Ring, Halina Reijn’s Bodies Bodies Bodies, about a group of wealthy, insufferable Gen-Zers’ weekend party at a mansion during a hurricane, is easily one of the laziest films of the year thus far.

Offering little for such buzzy young performers as Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm), Rachel Sennott (who, after this and Shiva Baby, is an instant red flag), and Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) to do besides shriek at each other for 90 minutes, Sarah DeLappe’s sloppy script seeks to solve the age-old riddle “How would today’s youth react to a murder — in the absence of WiFi?” The answer — and its idiotic “twist” — make for mind-numbing viewing that’s all the more infuriating thanks to some of 2022’s muddiest cinematography and the baffling decision to kill off the film’s lone interesting character before the halfway mark.

A worse film may not arise before Dec. 31.
